Detoxification at regular intervals is not only important but absolutely critical for us to remain healthy. Think about this fact: There are innumerable new chemicals that are being made on a daily basis. And how many of them actually get out into the environment? You would be surprised to know, that it is almost all of them. The pesticides are not the only toxic presence in our foods and food sources: The others being chemical sprays, fertilizers, flavours, artificial colours, sweeteners, and preservatives. These are present in all the foods that we consume.
According to some of the data available from the recently conducted annual reviews of the public health funded by the government:
- As many as 60,000 Americans die every year due to air pollution
- Almost 53 million Americans consume water that is contaminated
- More than 21,000 American citizens die from the pesticides which can cause cancer.
- Our food undergoes through radiation at almost 1 million times more than that of a regular chest X-ray.
- Almost 75% of the food we eat has been altered genetically.
- Almost all the animal meats are from the animals who are raised on growth hormones, antibiotics, and steroids so as to maximize their market value.
How Can We Detoxify Safely?
Luckily, there are a lot of ways in which we can prevent the toxins from building up in our bodies, and also release the existing toxicities from our bodies. There are a lot of traditional detoxification methods which are common across different cultures. Christian fasts, Finish and Russian saunas, Native American vision quests and sweat lodges, and Turkish baths are all some of the examples of some of the traditional detox rituals.
Simple Ways to Detox by Yourself
Among the detox circles there is a saying which goes something like – Dilution is the solution to the pollution. You should drink lots of water, vegetables juices, probiotics, fermented drinks, foods rich in enzymes, and teas. These liquids should not include milk of any type, coffee, fruit juice, or the soda drinks. All of these drinks are very acidic in nature: they have an either dehydrating effect (for example coffee), toxic effect (like soda drinks), or they may be too sugary (as the fruit juices), and extra processed (soy milk).
You should ideally drink at the very least eight 8-ounce glasses in a day. Or approximately half of your body weight in ounces. Hence, if you are 112 lbs, you should be having approximately 59 ounces in a day. You should try to consume the water or food not later than 7 pm. It is believed that this is when the kidneys are resting.
Sleep by 10 PM
The period between 10pm and 2am is supposed to be the most detoxifying and healing time to sleep. It is during this very crucial time, that our body performs most of the cell-repair as well as cell-rejuvenation, at the same time getting rid of the toxins within the cells in our body. If we happen to sleep at a time that is later than 1 a.m., we will be missing out on this very crucial and natural anti-aging habit.
